Worshipping God consists of various forms, and at Calvary Free Will Baptist Church, the activities that comprise our worship times reflect that. As aformentioned in our worship overview, music, prayer, and God's Word are the key elements that always comprise our worship services, these are also complemented at times by other activities .
As Free Will Baptists, we have adopted the sacred ordinances that we believe were ordained by Jesus Christ as He sought out to provide believers with an example to follow after. The ordinances that we practice include:
- Baptism. Believers who have trusted in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour will want to follow in His footsteps by partaking of this full immersion into the water, thus identifying ourself with Christ. Baptism alone does not save a sinner from his or her sin; rather it is an outward expression of the inward faith he or she now possesses as a child of the King.
- The Lord's Supper. Sharing of the bread and juice is a commemoration of the death of Jesus Christ in which the bread represents His broken body and the juice, or fruit of the vine, represents His shed blood. It is both a privilege and duty of all who have a spiritual union with Christ to honor His sacrifice. We practice open communion, meaning that all believers all welcome to share in this ceremony, whether local members or not.
- Washing of the Saints' Feet. This act was instituted by the Lord Himself, and called an example, on the night of his betrayal and also connected to the Lord's Supper. This practice teaches humility and reminds us of the need for daily cleansing from all sins. In it, brothers participate with brothers and sisters with sisters, in not just interpreting Christ's command to His disciples as figuratively, but also as literally, as we do with the other two ordinances.
